Miracle Service Dog Program: Meet Zane and Jake

Meet Zane and Jake. Zane is a local child who was recently awarded a service dog named Jake through the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Miracle Service Dog Program. This program awards up to two service dogs each year to children and families with a variety of needs. These service dogs are individually trained to meet the specific needs of the child and their condition. Service dogs can be trained to respond and alert to seizures, redirect repetitive behaviors, tether and locate a wandering child, interrupt self-harm and perform countless other tasks.

Jake was awarded to Zane last year and he has been training hard over the last few months in preparation of helping Zane with a variety of mobility needs. Zane’s parents received his spina bifida diagnosis at their 20 week ultrasound. This diagnosis came with many complications but Zane, now 6 years old, is determined that it won’t stop him! He has a fun and mischievous personality and his positive attitude easily makes one smile. Jake and Zane have quickly become the best of friends and Jake has become a great addition to Zane’s family.
