Miracle Monday: Meet Chandler!

Minutes after Chandler was born, his oxygen levels were abnormally low and his doctor could hear multiple heart murmurs. Chandler was flown to Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City where he was diagnosed with tetralogy of Fallot. He was placed on a special IV drug to keep him stabilized until his first open-heart surgery two weeks later. At 9 months of age, Chandler underwent his second open-heart surgery.  Chandler was finally able to return home after a very difficult 34 days of recovery. Over the next year he underwent heart catheterization procedures and in 2013 had his third open-heart surgery. In July 2018, a received a heart cath to replace a leaky pulmonary valve.

Because of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals at Freeman Health System, Chandler’s family was able to take him to California to receive specialty care. This young man continues to defy odds! He loves to golf and has been a frequent attendee at our annual Tournament of Miracles Golf Scramble each May, often referring to the tournament as “his” tournament, according to his mom.
